Anderson “The Spider” Silva is a Brazilian Muay Thai champion and mixed martial artist (MMA) and is the current UFC middleweight champion. He is also the Cage Rage World middleweight champion, the longest reigning champion in that promotion. He has also competed in PRIDE Fighting Championships and holds notable wins over Hayato Sakurai, Nathan Marquardt, Jeremy Horn and Rich Franklin, his next opponent. Silva is known for excellent striking ability and KO power. He also is excellent in the ground game and can submit opponents at will. He won the UFC middleweight championship when he defeated Rich Franklin via TKO in devastating fashion at UFC 64 on October 14, 2006. Referee “Big” John McCarthy ended the fight after Silva hit Franklin with knees to the body in the Muay Thai-clinch and then broke Franklin’s nose with a knee to the face.

He also has his master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati. Franklin has defeated such well-respected fighters such as Evan Tanner, Jorge Rivera, Ken Shamrock, Jason MacDonald, Nate Quarry, and Yushin Okami.
