Ted Forrest is a seasoned professional who has been playing Poker for over twenty years. He was born on September 24, 1964 in Syracuse, New York but now, like many other well known Poker professionals, he currently makes his home in Las Vegas. Forrest attended Lemoine College as a psychology student – where his father had been a professor – but did not complete his degree.
Ted’s early experience back in 1986 included a job as a prop player for Palace Station in Stud and Texas Hold’em games. He eventually started working as a dealer, spent his time studying the players and became skillful at figuring out their hole cards.
His motivation to become a professional Poker player is based to a great degree on his experience working at a hotel near the Grand Canyon where he participated in low stakes games with other employees. A co-worker, who was a poor card player, had a good day at the tables in Las Vegas and excitedly came back with a win of $275. Ted gave this some thought and came to the conclusion that he could do much better than that - and could make a lot more money than at working for someone else at a routine job. He began visiting casinos in Laughlin and Las Vegas – and the rest is history!
Ted has stated that he will play almost any hand because he is so confident that he can outplay his opponents. A number of his friends call him “Professor Backwards” because he does not follow the path of most other players. This is due to the fact that Forrest has simulated so many hands that he is able to read his opponents and intuit the odds of “playing each hand against each type of player.”
Ted commented that he believes a number of new players will arrive on the Poker scene thru the Internet as they can learn a great deal while playing online in the privacy of their home. He said that they can cram years of experience into a shorter time period and arrive as stronger players then they would have prior to playing online.
